Russell hopes to race for Mercedes in Abu Dhabi: "It depends on Lewis"
George Russell was without a doubt the unluckiest person of the day and perhaps the entire season. It looked like he was going to make the most out of his chance to race Lewis Hamilton's car, but a failed pit stop and a flat tyre destroyed everything.
“If you had told me at the beginning of the weekend that I would score points, I would have said that it will be a pretty fantastic weekend. To be told that you are leading the race and then this… I don't know, it hurt very much when I got out of the car," says Russell in front of the Ziggo Sport camera.
Russell hopes he has proven himself enough
“I immediately spoke to my parents. I know they felt it too, but they said 'you have so much to be proud of' and Toto [Wolff], James [Vowles] and Bono said the same. We hugged it out. Hopefully, I will give Toto some problems that he has to solve for the future."
He is, of course, referring to a second chance with the Mercedes team. If it is not next week in Abu Dhabi, then possibly in 2022. The question is whether he can replace Hamilton next week. “There is of course a chance, but I don't know about the most recent situation. It depends on Lewis. ”
