No jubilation for Verstappen over Albon's P3: "I'm allowed to be honest, right?"
Alexander Albon finished his race in Bahrain on the podium. For that he did need the bad luck of Sergio Perez and his gap to Verstappen was also considerable. When asked whether Albon did well today, Verstappen gave a very clear answer.
“You can fill that out for yourself, but I don't think that if you drive 30 or 40 seconds behind your teammate, that's very good. I can just be honest about that, right? It was a shame for Checo [Perez] too, because I think he drove a very strong race. It's nice for Alex that he is on the podium," said a clear Verstappen to Ziggo Sport.
Discussion about the future of Albon
This is then discussed in the studio of Ziggo Sport. Tom Coronel fully agrees with Verstappen. "I don't understand why we think he'll still be in that seat next year. Away with that boy, he's just not good enough."
Robert Doornbos, on the other hand, thinks there's a very real chance we'll see Albon next season if he has a few more races like this. "You don't talk well in those forty seconds, but they don't dare make the call to put Perez in now."
