While Lewis Hamilton breaks one record after another, another record is not in his name. That is the record of most victories in a season in a row. That record is in the name of Sebastian Vettel, who achieved it in 2013. He then won the last race of the season and that was his ninth consecutive Grand Prix victory.

Records do Vettel little

In terms of victories, 2013 was an excellent year for the German, as he managed to win no less than thirteen times over the entire season. This puts him on an equal footing with Michael Schumacher, who managed to do so in 2004.

The record of the most won races in a row is of course special, but if we look far back into the past we see Alberto Ascari, who won seven races in 1952 and 1953 in a row. This is something a few other drivers have done as well, but for now, Vettel is not caring much about it.

Fat and bald

He said of this record compared to Ascari's result in the 1950s: "Today this is a different kind of record. In the fifties the races were much longer and the racing cars often broke down. Alberto Ascari's record is still something very special," Vettel said.

"Actually, it is only a number. But when I am fat and have almost no hair left, it will be nice to look back on it," said Vettel to Speedweek, who clearly attaches little value to the established record. By the way, his record of 13 victories in a season could be matched by Lewis Hamilton, who would have to win all three upcoming races.
