Sergio Perez was in second place behind teammate Lance Stroll for much of the Turkish Grand Prix. However, the team decided to split the strategy and continuing on the old tyres turned out to be the best choice. Perez did see Lewis Hamilton overtake him.

Perez suddenly had Verstappen in his mirrors

“I already told my team on the radio that those tyres would explode if I drove them another lap. The [long drive] did make our race. The team has done a great job with the strategy. Lewis was very strong today, but we still achieved a good result. ”

“I had a moment with Max [Verstappen]. I couldn't see anything in my mirrors because of the fog. My engineer told me. Suddenly I saw Max go wide and then he disappeared again," Perez says about the perilous moment with the driver who he hopes will be his teammate next year.
