Doornbos doesn't see Hamilton leaving anytime soon

Lewis Hamilton has so far been vague about what his plans will be for 2021. The reigning World Champion is about to win his seventh world title and seems to be waiting until he has won the title to announce his plans for the future. According to Robert Doornbos, it is mainly due to the games taking place behind the scenes.
"It's honest and open from Lewis. There are a lot of things going on at Mercedes at the moment. They have also been hit by the pandemic and the new head of the German car manufacturer does not really have an F1 heart. They actually want to make savings, while Hamilton wants to earn more," explained Doornbos on Peptalk on Ziggo Sport. "Toto Wolff will also play a very important role."
Verstappen loyal to Red Bull
According to the former F1 driver, Wolff has a lot of influence on Hamilton's decision. "He has indicated that he would like to reduce his salary. Hamilton will probably look into the possibilities in consultation with him. He will probably keep his options open for 2022. He is of course the 'Greatest Of All Time' and that eighth title also beckons." If Hamilton actually stops at Mercedes, Doornbos expects that Max Verstappen will not consider switching.
"I don't think he wants to. At some point the structure will simply change and that doesn't mean you will remain dominant. You have to have the right people around you at the right time. At Red Bull Racing he has that, but the only disadvantage is that Red Bull is not a car manufacturer. I wouldn't be surprised if he stays with Red Bull, they have already proved that they can become world champions anyway." concludedDoornbos.
