DTM introduces electric car

The DTM-championship drove the last races last weekend in its current form. Audi will hold it up after this season and from next year they will continue with cars based on the GT3 regulations. In addition to these existing plans, the ITR (organisation behind the DTM) presented even bigger plans for the future this weekend.
On the Hockenheim circuit, a fully electric DTM car was demonstrated. The prototype produces 1200 hp and thus has almost twice the power of today's DTM car. In the first instance, it is planned to run in a separate championship within the DTM programme, probably from 2023 onwards.
"Together with Schaeffler, our first strategic partner with which we will be cooperating, we want to lead the DTM platform into a successful future. It is our aim not only to showcase the latest technology in DTM Electric, but also to bring central innovations to the race track that allow for spectacular racing. Thus, we also want to convince the classic motorsport fans about future technologies and fascinate them with attractive racing," said DTM boss Gerhard Berger.
