Christijan Albers isn't enthusiastic about how Red Bull Racing deals with Alexander Albon. The former Formula 1 driver doesn't think it's neat that the Austrian race team indicates in the press that Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez are interesting options for next year's RB17 alongside Max Verstappen.

"They are now increasing the pressure again. You can see the result of that," said Albers in the podcast of De Telegraaf. The former driver of Spyker, among others, doesn't understand why Red Bull reveals so much in the media. "They can also say to the press: 'We don't make statements. We'll see at the end of the year'. But what are they going to do? : 'He's going to drive, he's going to drive and we're going to talk to him'. You get Helmut Marko who is going to say something with his ego."

Red Bull's approach incomprehensible

In Albers' view, that is one of the reasons why Albon has not performed properly in recent weeks. "Unconsciously you are going to increase the pressure anyway, and that is not correct. What is the problem with simply conducting the negotiations without getting into the press? Just tell the press that you will make a decision when the season is over. What's the advantage of telling everyone you're talking to now or who you'd like to have in the car."

There are three options for Red Bull in 2021: Alexander Albon, Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez. The latter two do not yet have a seat for next year, so it is logical to link them to the Austrian race team. "But what is the value of mentioning those two drivers? It's not neat, finished. Certainly not for a top team," Albers concludes his story.
