Latifi on De Vries: "Many things that need to fall into place"

Nyck de Vries became Formula 2 world champion in 2019 but did not manage to get a seat in Formula 1 in the end. Nicholas Latifi, the driver he defeated in the Formula 2 championship, managed to do so.
Falling into place
De Vries became champion ahead of Latifi (266 at 214 points), but to no avail in his search for a place in Formula 1. Latifi had the advantage of having already made quite a few test kilometres in a Formula 1 car and also had a bag of money to take to Williams.
In an interview with the Dutch Formule 1 Magazine Latifi talks about Nyck de Vries and his failed move to Formula 1. "It's tricky because Nyck deserves a chance in Formula 1, but on the other hand you only have twenty seats and there are a lot of things that need to fall into place," the Canadian driver says.
Other race classes
De Vries is keeping busy. He is currently driving for Mercedes in Formula E, where he finished eleventh in the championship last season. De Vries also drives in the European Le Mans Series for G-Drive Racing and for Racing Team Nederland in the World Endurance Championship. In the WEC he is also a test and reserve driver for the Toyota factory team. "I am happy for him that he has a bright future as a professional driver," says Latifi.
