Sergio Perez is still one of the candidates to ride alongside Max Verstappen in 2021, but one advantage for Perez can be crossed out. According to an anonymous team boss, Perez doesn't bring as much money as originally anticipated.

In recent years Perez has proven to be a fast and consistant driver in Formula 1. Especially his quality to keep tyres going as long as possible is a quality that is appreciated. Nevertheless, Perez's money also plays an important role in his negotiations, but not as much as people think.

Perez does not make as much money after all

"If you deduct Perez's salary from the sponsors' amount, only three million are left. For that money your whole car will be under with the Mexican sponsors," said an anonymous team boss to Auto, Motor und Sport

It works as follows. The team has to have an agreement with the driver and then Carlos Slim decides how much money the Mexican sponsors will pay. Meanwhile, the team has already agreed a salary with Perez and there is not much money left. That way, Slim gets exactly what he wants.
