The Portuguese Grand Prix was mainly dominated by Lewis Hamilton's 92nd victory, but Marc Surer also saw other drivers shining. Pierre Gasly, for example, but Surer expected more from Max Verstappen.

The Portuguese Grand Prix was won by Hamilton and although that should come as no surprise in 2020, behind the top three it was most exciting. According to Surer, it was mainly Gasly who stood out with his performance. The Frenchman drove a ninth to fifth place and got the highest ratings from the Austrian.

Verstappen disappoints

In his analysis for Motorsport-total.com, the former F1 driver writes that Gasly 'has long since earned his seat at Red Bull'. Christian Horner, however, has already stated that Gasly is not an option for Red Bull because he cannot cope with the pressure. According to Surer, however, this is incomprehensible, as Alexander Albon's performance 'makes the choice very easy for Red Bull'.

Verstappen finished well in third place, but at the start of the race Surer expected more from the Dutchman. ''Somehow I expected more. Sainz actually did what I expected from Verstappen at the start, namely to use the soft tyres to take the lead," concludes Surer.
