Horner laughs at Mercedes' support: ''They have the best engine''

Red Bull Racing wants to freeze the development of the engines from 2022 so that they can take over Honda's engines and not spend too much money on them. It was a surprise, however, that Mercedes supports this plan.
Horner laughs for support
Due to the announced departure of Honda, Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri are looking for a new engine partner for 2022. They're in a difficult situation, as none of the current engine suppliers wants to supply Red Bull, so the team is looking into the possibility of taking over the Honda engines. As part of this, they want engine development to be frozen for 2022
While Ferrari is vehemently against this idea (not surprising given their engine backlog), Mercedes is in favour of this decision. Christian Horner fully understands that support. ''That, of course, comes as no surprise. It is surprising that they support Red Bull, but not illogical to vote for it, because they have the best engine," says Horner in Red Bull's online press conference.
Mercedes doesn't want to deliver anything
"There is a bigger picture for Formula 1 that is important to see and we as a sport need to take the right steps to secure the future of Formula 1. Toto (Wolff) will do everything in his power not to have to provide us with a engine, so I am very grateful for his full support on this part," Horner laughs at his sarcastic remark.
Red Bull also has talks with other suppliers, but Horner doesn't seem to be aiming his arrows at that. ''There are of course a lot of discussions, because this is a big topic. However, it is not just a problem for our team, but one that is much bigger for Formula 1," concludes Horner.
