Bottas on tyre choice discussion: "Don't think it made any difference"
Bottas seemed to be in control of the Portuguese Grand Prix after overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the opening lap, but he had to settle for the second step on the podium. Bottas had to accelerate at the end of the race to keep Max Verstappen behind him.
"The first lap was pretty good. It drizzled a bit, which made it difficult. A number of cars on the soft tyre had the advantage. I was glad I got the lead, but after that I just didn't have the pace today," says a visibly disappointed Bottas afterwards.
"I tried to defend, but I couldn't really do anything about it," he says about the moment Hamilton caught up with him. "As I said, I don't know why I didn't have the pace today. I did my best, but I just couldn't go faster."
Before his pit stop there was then some discussion about the tyre choice. "I was hoping to stretch the first stint and then go for the soft tyre at the end, but I don't think it made any difference."
