Former Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg has announced he will be launching his own Extreme E-tem. Extreme E is a new electric racing class in which SUVs are raced in remote areas with a particular focus on the climate and nature.

Renewed battle

Rosberg's team will be called Rosberg Xtreme Racing (RXR), the drivers are not yet known. Earlier Lewis Hamilton also founded an Extreme E team; X44. In 2021, when the first championship in this class will be held, the two world champions will be rivals again for the first time in five years. Not as drivers but as team bosses. RXR is the ninth team to sign up for Extreme E, which will race in five remote locations in Senegal, Greenland, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and Brazil in early 2021.

Sustainable racing

“We are thrilled to unveil Rosberg Xtreme Racing as the latest addition to Extreme E,” said Rosberg on Racer.com.

“The series represents an amazing opportunity to not only drive awareness, but also inspire action in the fight against climate change - the single biggest threat to our planet today. Since retiring from F1 I have dedicated my career to sustainable technologies so to be able to combine these endeavors with my passion for racing is incredibly fulfilling."
