Nico Hulkenberg will not be flown in last minute in case he is called upon in Portugal. This time the German is prepared for a possible opportunity and is already present at the Formula 1 paddock.

The Formula 1 season of 2020 is slightly different from other years due to the coronavirus. The coronavirus has already caused Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll to miss races, allowing Hulkenberg a couple of opportunities to impress.

Hulkenberg present in Portimao

Hulkenberg has filled in three times this season, twice for Perez at Silverstone and last time out in Germany for Perez's teammate Stroll. Stroll's diagnosis wasn't confirmed until recently but he is back for the first-ever F1 race at Portimao.

Racing Point are therefore airing on the side of caution this weekend as Nico Hulkenberg is present in Portimao. Should things go wrong with one of the drivers, Hulkenberg will be on hand to fill in. Otmar Szafnauer indicated that he is playing it safe and even states that other teams have also brought in reserve drivers.
