During a conference for investors, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff shed some light on the future cooperation plans between AMG and the F1 team. His conclusion? The Mercedes name will not be disappearing from F1 anytime soon.

Wolff assures that the Mercedes name will stay on the car for the foreseeable future, despite plans for an intensified cooperation between the company and AMG. From 2021 onwards the AMG brand will be more prominently displayed on the Mercedes-cars.

Part of the Mercedes genome

Wolff explained why an exit of the Mercedes name goes against the history of the German brand. “Motorsport is part of the Mercedes genome. The first Mercedes of all was a racing car," Wolff said as reported by Speedweek

“We want to give brands like AMG, EQ or Maybach a broader marketing base, that's true. But the name Mercedes will not disappear from Formula 1 because of that. Our Formula 1 car will always be a Mercedes. We just want to make the AMG brand more conspicuous.
