In the final lap of the Eifel Grand Prix Max Verstappen quickly managed to gain an extra point, as he set the fastest lap. He was very happy with that, as could be heard on the onboard radio.

Goosebumps

That is what former F1-driver Christijan Albers says in the Formula 1 podcast of De Telegraaf. "Imagine what kind of feeling that gives Max. That you are really going to sit down for it in that last lap. That he will drive the fastest lap there. That's for a driver... that just gives you goose bumps. That's an extra boost, that's cool and nobody will take that away from you anymore".

Winning a race is certainly no less important, but we should not underestimate the fastest lap. Not only because of the euphoria, but also because of what the result will be in the long run in a certain sense. Albers says: "You can win the race, but if three, four, five or six years later there is no more racing at the Nürburgring with Formula 1, then the lap record is in the name of Max Verstappen. How cool is that?"

No faultless race

Finally, Albers says that the Dutchman drove an excellent race, but it was not entirely flawless. "There were a few small things, like with the safety car. The fact that he had to warm up the tyres and almost went wrong when he got onto the straight. Luckily the car picked it up, because you could see it was slipping with understeer."

"Ricciardo didn't get past it, otherwise it would have been a difficult problem despite being much faster. But you must never give up, because you can see that an accident is in a small corner. Just look at Bottas", who at one point had to stop the race while he was initially in the lead but was braking from which Hamilton took advantage.
