Hamilton gets praised: 'It's not a question of having the fastest car'

With his victory at the Eifel Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton came on par with Michael Schumacher in terms of number of victories in F1. No less than 91 times both drivers crossed the line first. According to two-time world champion Mika Häkkinen a particularly strong performance.
Hamilton at the same height as Schumacher
In his column on Unibet, the Finn tries to make it clear that winning 91 races, let alone claiming the title six or seven times, is not as easy as it seems. Schumacher had the best car in the first years of the millennium and Hamilton in recent years, but their performance is no less.
"Winning races and taking a title requires a lot, including a good car, a strong team mate and an excellent team around you. Lewis has taken full advantage of that at Mercedes".
"Hamilton's art of winning and continuing to do so from the age of 21 until the age of 35 is not just an achievement. Everyone needs to know that it's not just a question of having the best car".
Hamilton breaks the record
The six-time world champion is now on a par with the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, looking to race victories. Hakkinen thought the gesture of Mick Schumacher, son of Michael, was special.
"I liked to see Mick give his father's helmet to Lewis at the end of the race. It was a good time for Mick to represent his father and acknowledge the equalization of his record".
There is no reason to think that Hamilton is not going to win any more races. So Schumacher's record is likely to be broken this year and fall into Hamilton's hands. Hakkinen: "We can't imagine what this record will be until Lewis decides to quit."
