In Mugello and Russia, Lance Stroll has already been able to drive with the new upgrades from Racing Point. This because he stands above his teammate Sergio Perez in the championship. The expectation was that Perez would get all the new upgrades in Russia, but due to the hard crash of Stroll in Mugello, the Mexican had to wait a few more weeks for the upgrades. For the Nürburgring, however, they are ready for use, according to Motorsportweek.

In Mugello Racing Point announced that the upgrades are likely to be two to three tenths faster than the old car, which was suspiciously similar to the Mercedes car in 2019. Stroll, however, dropped out hard in Mugello, causing those parts to be lost. For Russia, the team was able to bring another set of new parts and again the Canadian was given priority.

Racing Point to P3?

In Russia, however, Stroll wasn't very lucky again and dropped out because he hit a clash with Charles Leclerc in the first lap. Perez finished fourth in that race, just off the podium. So Racing Point used the two weeks between Russia and the Nürburgring efficiently.

Both cars will now be running the upgrades, which should secure them third place in the constructors' championship. The team is currently in a duel with McLaren and Ferrari for that third place, and Racing Point seems to have the best papers to secure third place, behind Mercedes and Red Bull Racing.
