In 2021 Fernando Alonso returns to Formula 1. After an absence of two seasons, the Spaniard returns to the sport where he already became world champion twice. Is a third title still possible?
At the end of 2018, Alonso announced its departure from Formula 1. Alonso announced that it may not be forever and after adventures in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, IndyCar and the Dakar Rally that prediction has come true. In 2021 Alonso returns to Renault, but the double world champion is realistic.
Alonso more realistic now
''I would like to say yes'', Alonso answers the question of whether he is coming back to win the world title for the third time. ''However, 'I know the limitations, especially in 2021, with which I am not going to compete for the world title. In 2022 it will be exciting, because a lot of teams hope to compete at the top'', says Alonso to Marca.
''I'm simply coming back to F1 because I love racing and this class has come through the corona pandemic fairly undamaged. I'm coming back to a team that excites me because it feels like family. When the go-ahead is given, we all turn into competitive beasts who want to win everything, but I am aware of the limitations and the difficulties we will encounter'', concludes Alonso to the Spanish medium.
