For the first time since 2013 there will be a Grand Prix this weekend at the Nürburgring. Sebastian Vettel is the last winner on the legendary circuit. He is very much looking forward to the Eifel Grand Prix, as the event is officially called.

Nordschleife

The German circuit now has a mythical status and has already been nicknamed 'The Green Hell'. Almost seventy drivers have lost their lives on this circuit, most of them on the Nordschleife. "I think the myth of the Nürburgring actually only lives through the Nordschleife. Unfortunately, we won't be driving there, only on the Grand Prix circuit. But nevertheless, it's wonderful that we're coming back here," said Vettel at RTL"It is one of the tracks we all dream of.”

Although the Nordschleife is no longer being driven on, the circuit is still one to look forward to. "The Grand Prix circuit is an exciting and challenging circuit that normally should always be on the Formula 1 calendar. It is a pity that this is not the case.”

Accident Niki Lauda

The last time Formula 1 drove the Nordschleife, in 1976, Niki Lauda had his almost fatal accident. Vettel explained that he spoke about the circuit with Lauda, but hardly talked about the accident. "He told me that the track used to be a pure adventure. At that time there was no communication between the driver in the car and the team. The drivers were completely alone for a very long part, out there in the green hell. It was just a completely different time, also other cars. But Niki enjoyed it. I was amazed at how vivid his memories were, even though everything was a long time ago.”
