Apart from being a gifted driver, Lewis Hamilton is also an avid user of social media, where he often makes himself heard about social issues. That varies from the climate to the Black Lives Matter movement and everything in between. With his reach he has an enormous influence and that hasn't escaped TIME Magazine.
Second time in the list
They have included the six-time Formula 1 World Champion in the list of 100 most influential people. This list includes politicians, musicians, activists, sports stars and many more. Hamilton made it to this prestigious list thanks to his commitment against racism and his achievements in sports.
This is not the first time that Hamilton has returned to the list, it is his second entry and NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace has spoken out about it in the magazine. "I'm the only Black driver in NASCAR's top level. So Lewis' example - as the lone Black F1 driver - is particularly meaningful for me."
"He shows we're out there doing it. To see him conquering the track damn near every weekend, it motivates me to try to do the same. His activism has also moved the world. Lewis has brought international attention to the Black Lives Matter movement, through his advocacy on social media and at F1 events."
"Lewis' mental preparation, his aura, his ability to capitalise on every opportunity to use his platform to drive out racism are more than just a model for race-car drivers and other athletes. He's an inspiration for everyone," said Wallace, praising the British F1 champion.
