Ferrari has a season that the team quickly wants to forget. According to Mattia Binotto, this year is not just due to mistakes made at Ferrari, but today's competition is much stronger than it used to be.

Problematic year

This is what Binotto said in an interview with former McLaren driver David Coulthard: "Of course this is a difficult time for us, but everyone at Ferrari believes in Formula 1. It's good to see everyone staying together in this difficult year," said Binotto quoted by Speedweek.com.

The Italian team boss says that despite the bad period, Ferrari is far from finished with Formula 1. "Ferrari has always been part of F1 and Ferrari will remain in the top class for a long time to come. I think we have a lot more competition today. The level of organisation and development is much higher."

Achieving dominance takes time

It is nothing new for Formula 1 teams that it takes time for a team to reach the top. Binotto also knows that: "It takes time to get ahead. In the time with Michael Schumacher it took Ferrari six years to dominate. It took Red Bull Racing and Mercedes years to build their dominance."
