Mercedes are satisfied and state that the aerodynamic update they brought to the Belgian GP has worked well. Furthermore, it is Toto Wolff who states that the Mercedes could have driven much faster on the hard compound, but that this was not done to save the tyres

The safety car after Antonio Giovinazzi's crash actually came a bit too early on the tenth lap. "We planned laps 17 and 18 for a pit stop," admitted the strategists at Auto, Motor und Sport. Team boss Wolff adds: "That's why we drove six to seven-tenths slower at the start of that stint in order not to overload the tyres."

The danger of Max Verstappen was still not over. "If Max suddenly attacks at a certain point, Lewis and Valtteri must still have something in the barrel," said the engineers at the German medium.

Bottas sees the world in reverse

Red Bull Racing half a second behind during qualifying, which was an improvement on the Grands Prix before. In Sunday's race, however, the gap was bigger. Valtteri Bottas came to the same conclusion. "Our aero upgrade for the fast circuits worked just as the wind tunnel promised. Red Bull was closer in one lap but lost more time in the race trim. It's usually the other way around."
