Mercedes announced in June that the head of the engine department, Andy Cowell, will leave the racing stable in 2021. In order to cope with his upcoming departure, there will be some changes of watch at the team, which was announced at the same time. In the meantime, he would have had an offer from Ferrari and a transfer to Aston Martin could also be an option. Cowell now responds and says he's not sure yet.

Transfer

Cowell already resigned from his primary duties in July, but he will remain with the team until the end of this year to make the transition as smooth as possible. Hywel Thomas is his successor and he is now being prepared to take over the baton for good. For Cowell, the future is uncertain afterwards, but I'm sure there will be plenty of offers.

"Everyone asks me what I'm going to do now, but I'm not 100 percent sure about it," says Cowell in the Beyond the Grid podcast. "Hopefully I can help companies, organizations and people." The latter comes from his participation in Project Pitlane, where F1 teams contributed to the development and production of corona fans for use in hospitals.

"That ignited the fire in me and got me thinking about CPAP ventilation and everything related to that project. That is the challenge I want to take on in the future. Right now I have one of the best jobs on the planet and a lot of friends. Especially my mother thinks I'm crazy because I resigned."

But anyway, Cowell hasn't quite figured it out yet. Over the next few months, he will continue to think about his future: "Motorsport will always be part of my life. I have September, October, November and December to make a decision."
