During the Spanish Grand Prix there was a discussion between Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing engineer Gianpiero Lambiase about when the first pitstop should be done. Verstappen was pretty fierce and afterwards Helmut Marko countered that 'Max should leave the strategy to the team'. The advisor of the Austrian team explains that statement.

"All other drivers can only talk about the on-board radio on the straight because they have their hands full with the car. But Max kept cursing in the corners. He spent an entire lap fussing about how we should have arranged the tactics", Marko looks back at Motorsport.com on the fierce on-board radios of Verstappen during the race at the circuit of Barcelona.

Verstappen can't walk on water

Verstappen wanted to come in earlier, but Red Bull calculated he'd end up behind the Racing Points. This wasn't a problem for the 22-year-old Dutchman, but the Milton Keynes-based team thought otherwise. "He thought he could walk on water and told everyone to catch up, but of course that's nonsense", he says to Motorsport.com.

That's why the Limburger first had to stay on the tarmac a few laps longer to increase the difference with Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll. "On a circuit like Barcelona even Max needs a big time delta to catch up. All the more so because the Racing Points are so fast on the straight", Marko concludes his story.
