The battle in midfield is particularly exciting. Racing Point leads the dance with 63 points, but McLaren (62) and Ferrari (61) follow at very short distance. So it will be a development contest, which Racing Point can hardly win.

McLaren, Racing Point and Ferrari in combat

Racing Point has already lost fifteen points in the championship, but is still in the hunt for third place among the constructors. However, there is still a case hanging over the team, since they themselves have protested against their punishment, but also Renault and Ferrari have protested against the, in their view, too low penalty.

Beyond all this, the battle on the track is very exciting. Racing Point currently has the faster car, but according to Auto, Motor und Sport, McLaren will continue to update their car during 2020. This also applies to pursuer Ferrari, although they have also indicated that the main target will be 2022.

Racing Point is overtaking

The battle for that third place (and the associated financial compensation) will be fierce during the season, as a new floor will have to be developed by the teams before 2021. McLaren will even have to work on the chassis, since the Renault engine will make way for a Mercedes engine in the current chassis.

However, where McLaren is determined to continue updating the 2020 car, Auto, Motor und Sport knows that Racing Point will do it with just one update. They focus on designing the floor for 2021 and expect to be overtaken by competitors. The update of Racing Point will be in Italy, after which it will not update in 2020.
