Mick Schumacher can hope for a step towards Formula 1. Ferrari seems intent on leading him to the pinnacle of motorsport. Mattia Binotto says in an interview that it is probably the most sensible thing for Michael's son to start with a smaller team.

"He's doing very well in Formula 2 this season", Binotto said in conversation with Bild am Sonntag. Ferrari's team boss had given a clear assignment to Schumacher Jr. prior to the 2020 season: "His task was to improve and make progress. That is what he does. What we are going to do with him next year, we will soon discuss with him".

Schumacher to Alfa Romeo or Haas?

There doesn't seem to be a place in Ferrari's main force for the time being. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are provisionally under contract with the Maranello based race stable. "I think the logical next step would be to start with a smaller Formula 1 team where he can get to know everything. Then he can slowly move on."

The most logical destinations seem to be Alfa Romeo Racing and Haas F1. At these raceteams no driver has been confirmed for 2021 and so there seem to be opportunities for the young German.

Schumacher's best result this year is second place in the sprint race at Silverstone. In the general classification he is in fifth place with 79 points. The gap to the number one Callum Ilott is 42 points.
