Tost wants to buy more from Red Bull: 'Philosophy of constructors is out of date'

From 2021 onwards, Formula 1 wants to prohibit that teams copy other cars. It should prevent a second 'pink Mercedes', but not everyone agrees. According to Franz Tost this would help the sport.
Tost wants to buy more from Red Bull
''My personal opinion is that teams should buy a lot more from other teams. The philosophy behind the constructor in Formula 1 is long outdated. Purists say that you have to build your own car, but do you know how we can finance this?'' says Tost according to Autosport.com.
AlphaTauri's team boss sees the difference with the top getting bigger and bigger. ''Technically the sport has grown so much. The top teams have impressive facilities, which makes it almost impossible for newcomers to get into the sport. You then spend millions and for what? Even with that budget cap, we continue to spend too much money''.
Who's gonna check it?
If teams like AlphaTauri and Racing Point were allowed to buy more, that would save a lot in costs according to Tost. ''Personally, I often think back to the early years with Toro Rosso, when we could buy a lot of the old stuff from Red Bull Racing and do it with a third of our current budget," says Tost, who questions the possible rules at all.
''You can't prohibit teams from taking pictures of other cars, then they're already doing it as long as there is F1. So the question is whether it is legal to get parts of other teams to make your own part of it. However, that decision is not up to me'', Tost concludes on the case against Racing Point.
