Max Verstappen and his engineer were frequently heard on the on-board radio on Sunday. Red Bull Racing wanted to keep Verstappen outside for longer, but Verstappen wanted to go inside for new tyres. Did this situation get out of hand or is this part of it?

Fight between Red Bull and Verstappen?

"Of course, it's two things that have to come together. First, the team has the complete overview of the race, with all the data and details of other teams. On the other hand you have the driver, who has the feeling and overview in the car. These two have to come together for a good result'', says Jan Lammers in the Formula 1 podcast of the NOS.

''In Silverstone, for example, he wanted to push and Red Bull let him do it. Now Verstappen finally took what the team asked of him. That may sound a bit heavy, but that's just a healthy conflict. Without conflict you don't get any wiser as a team'', said the former Formula 1 driver.

Hamilton still makes some mistakes

During the race Verstappen was clear in his words, but after the race Helmut Marko also made himself heard. According to Lammers we shouldn't hang on to this too much. ''You're very close to each other, but that can have that relationship. Max and Helmut just say what they think, but that's really not as critical as it seems.''

Verstappen now had to make do with a second place, but Lammers still enjoyed that. ''That's why I'm such a fan of Verstappen. He takes the lead within the team and gets the maximum out of himself every race. Now Lewis Hamilton is the goldcrest again, but last week he made some mistakes'', Lammers concludes critically about the six-time world champion.
