Herbert: "Verstappen is ready to win the title"
- GPblog.com
It can be as predictable as it is unpredictable in Formula 1. After three good races of Mercedes and a just to first place for Hamilton on three wheels at Silverstone, it seemed that the other teams would have it checked. Verstappen suddenly came back very strong in the fifth race last weekend with his Red Bull, who performed well and so the championship is open again.
Ready to fight for the title
With this performance by Verstappen and the wonderful result, the courage is back in Red Bull Racing and Honda. In general Mercedes is still the team to beat, but Verstappen should certainly not be excluded as a contender for the title. At least Johnny Herbert, former F1 driver, who is convinced that Verstappen is ready to attack for the title.
Is Verstappen ready to win the world title, Herbert is asked to Sky Sports F1. His answer couldn't be clearer: "Yes, I think he is. I think he’s matured so much from that first win in Barcelona when he moved from Toro Rosso to the big team Red Bull. And I think because of his capabilities and his capability to absorb all the information that he has to do as a Formula 1 race driver in a big team, he’s only gonna get stronger and stronger. And when he becomes stronger, he’s gonna become that bigger threat."
Similar to Hamilton
This reminds Herbert of 2007, when Lewis Hamilton entered Formula 1 and competed against two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. "We got a very, very similar type of driver in Max Verstappen and that’s exciting for me, for you and for race fans who are watching."
