That Ferrari is not going to compete for the title this year is unfortunately a painful fact. Also next season a hardship of the Italian team, due to the limited possibilities when it comes to development of the car, is not certain. President John Elkann said earlier that Ferrari hopes that the team will be competitive again in 2022.

That doesn't mean that Ferrari is going to go all the way in 2022, leaving the development of the current car behind. In fact, team boss Mattia Binotto hopes that Ferrari can at least be second in the constructors' championship next year. With this, Ferrari would like to attack Red Bull.

Few developments

Despite the limited number of developments that the teams are allowed to make, Binotto is very positive: "There are some constraints that impact our project which now has a performance disadvantage," says Binotto to Motorsport.com. "I think we can improve, but I think the ambition to beat Mercedes is wrong, because today the gap is huge. But the second place is definitely an achievable goal".
