On Friday it was Mercedes who dominated both practise sessions at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone, just like the week before. The German team completed a one-two in both the first and second free practice sessions. Will Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas be able to extend that to qualifying later on today? Will Max Verstappen's Red Bull Racing car be able to challenge them?

Mercedes are expected to qualify on the front row of the grid. Analysis of the Friday practice sessions shows that the gap towards Red Bull is again almost a second. The difference between the Austrian formation and the teams in midfield is expected to be between three and four-tenths.

Before we start qualifying this afternoon, we have FP3. The teams will have 60 minutes to find the right set-up for the rest of the weekend. Especially the teams in midfield can use this time to make a difference. The battle between Racing Point, Ferrari, McLaren and Renault promises to be an exciting one.

Each team has been given eight softs, three medium and two sets of hard tyres by Pirelli at Silverstone for the second British Grand Prix of 2020. The softs don't seem to be very useful, so the number of available tyres is very minimal. The softs will mainly be driven in FP3, as the harder compounds seem to be needed in Sunday's race. Two and three stoppers are expected, so saving tyres seems inevitable.
