Wolff confident Mercedes won't face similar punishment after Racing Point saga

Toto Wolff has assured doubters that he does not feel Mercedes will face similar punishment after Racing Point were deducted 15 points. Their brake ducts were deemed illegal but Wolff is confident they won't face the same issues.

"We feel a 100% comfortable with our position," said Wolff as quoted by Autosport.com.

"We have read the rules over and over again. The verdict that came out today is extremely complicated, and comes up with an interpretation that is new to all of us.

"We have provided certain data in 2019, which was totally within the rules.

"The January 6 [delivery of ducts] has no material effect on any of the action, because the whole thing was delivered much earlier. And all the CAD drawings and designs were delivered much earlier. And Racing Point and ourselves are still of the opinion that it's within the regulations."

Racing Point have been pushing for podiums this season and will be in the hunt again at Silverstone for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. They will have Nico Hulkenberg behind the wheel, who continues to isolate after returning a positive coronavirus test.
