Hamilton tops FP2 at Silverstone, Bottas second, Ricciardo third
Mercedes secured yet another one-two, as Lewis Hamilton topped FP2 ahead of Valtteri Bottas at Silverstone. Mercedes were emphatic leading much of the session by over a second. Daniel Ricciardo finished in third.
Hamilton topped the session to beat his teammate and nearest World Championship rival by 0.176. It took some time for the Mercedes to come out of the garage but once they did they showed their intent. Bottas immediately went over a second quicker than Nico Hulkenberg who, up until that point, had been the standard of the field.
Daniel Ricciardo was a surprise in P3 as he set a 1:26.421 just marginally ahead of his old teammate, Max Verstappen who finished fourth. If they're to be Mercedes' nearest challengers it looks as if it'll be a comfortable weekend for the championship leaders.
Racing Point were once again very quick despite the news earlier in the day of their 15 point penalty. Lance Stroll and Nico Hulkenberg, filling in for Sergio Perez, were fifth and sixth. Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz and Esteban Ocon completed the top ten after an hour and a half of driving.
It was another challenging session for Sebastian Vettel who was once again well off the pace and lagging behind his teammate. His session also came to a premature end when he was forced out of the session with oil spilling from his car.
