Valtteri Bottas is certainly not doing badly as a second driver at Mercedes in recent years. He never really knew how to make things difficult for Lewis Hamilton, but he stayed ahead of the competition. However, as a 'second' driver your seat is often not secured, so Bottas knows all about that.

Bottas explains to ESPN that he talked to other teams, in case Mercedes didn't want to continue with him: "Yes, I had conversations with other teams, I can say that. Even before we started racing this season, there was a lot of movement when it comes to teams and drivers".

Hamilton in sight

Despite the big difference in points between Hamilton and Bottas at the moment, Bottas is not satisfied with a position as second driver at Mercedes: "For me there is still a chance to win the title this year, even though Lewis leads with 30 points. And next year I know I'll get the chance if I perform well. That's all I need."
