In the F1 2020 season, some drivers kneel down before the race to show their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. With Lewis Hamilton at the forefront, most of the drivers on the grid take a knee, but a few drivers remain standing. Max Verstappen doesn't kneel either and explains his opinion.

During the Red Bull press conference prior to the first race weekend in England Max Verstappen talked about the upcoming race. The Dutchman said he was already okay with the fact that he is half a second behind rival Mercedes. After that the conversation changed to another topic.

"Everyone expresses themselves in a different way, but everyone is fighting against racism. I don't think we are able to end racism but at least we are fighting", Verstappen starts. Max Verstappen is one of the few drivers who doesn't participate with the knee gesture before the races.

'A united F1 is the most important thing'

Also Kimi Raikkonen of Alfa Romeo Racing didn't kneel down and let himself be told. The Finn wondered why he had to justify his choice. According to Verstappen kneeling isn't necessarily the most important point.

"It's not about kneeling, it's about working together," says Verstappen. At first Romain Grosjean didn't kneel with the other drivers either, but in the meantime he said he had come to terms with Hamilton because of a long telephone conversation.
