To make the second Grand Prix at Silverstone slightly different from the first one this weekend, Pirelli has chosen to bring different tyres to the two races. This weekend the British Grand Prix will be held first and then at Silverstone again, but then as the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

Many ideas discussed

Several ideas have been discussed to make the second race at Silverstone different than the first. There have been ideas about a different layout on the table, but they all didn't work out in the end.

To make a small difference the teams will have the three hardest compounds available during the Grand Prix of Great Britain: the C1 (white, hard), the C2 (yellow, medium) and C3 (red, soft). For the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix the teams will get just a little softer tyres: The C2 (white, hard), C3 (yellow, medium) and the C4 (red, soft).

Add extra element

According to Pirelli boss Mario Isola, the change adds an element of uncertainty: "With two races on a circuit familiar to the teams, it was important to add an extra element for that second race", he says to Motorsport.com.

"That's why we decided to take a step 'softer' for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. The first choice of tyres [during the British GP] is the same as last year and would roughly result in one or two pit stops. During the second race, depending on the strategy of the drivers, we should see two-stops for the most part", Isola concludes.
