This season F1 is finally going to race again at the circuit of Mugello in Italy. Mattia Binotto expects that a new record will be set on the track, as the're team already got some track time there before the actual season started.

The current record on the Mugello circuit of the fastest race lap is still in the name of Rubens Barrichello. The Brazilian drove a lap of 1.18.704 on the track in service of Ferrari in 2004. Since then the record hasn't been broken, but Formula 1 hasn't driven since 2021.

Mattia Binotto therefore thinks that this season the record will finally be broken. Ferrari has experience with the circuit, because the team did a test there before the season. "We did a very similar lap time with full tank, not pushing, et cetera. So I’m pretty curious to see when we set the pole, I’m pretty sure it will be a record", explains Binotto to RaceFans.net.

A circuit with a lot of fast corners

According to the team boss Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel enjoy the circuit. "They were very happy because of the circuit, because of the type of circuit, so they enjoyed their day in Mugello,” he said. “It’s a very quick track, high speed corners, it will be demanding for tyres on the cars, on the drivers."

Binotto only foresees problems when it comes to overtaking on the circuit of Mugello. "There is a long straight, but there is just fast corners before the main straight. So it’s quite interesting to see all the Formula 1 cars of today of going through there", concluded the Italian.
