It looks like Ferrari has started their worst season in years. In the past it may not have meant winning any races, but now the team will be happy to take the podium. Charles Leclerc's second place in Austria could be the highlight.

If the team does not get their season back on track and it continues to float around its current position, it's likely that they won't end up with the best three teams. Something that happened to them for the last time in 2014. A season that was considered a low at the time.

With their current pace, however, it must also be careful that there is not another team better. Not only Racing Point, but also McLaren and Renault seem to be structurally threatening the position of Ferrari. Should Ferrari finish fifth or lower in the constructors' championship, we have to go back to 1981 that was the last time this happened.

Apart from the fact that it causes a big dent in the ego and image of the Italian team, the wallet will not like this either. Assuming that under normal circumstances Ferrari becomes at least third, the team will miss out on a fourth, fifth or sixth place between 7 and 15 million euros of TV monies, based on calculations made by Racefans.net previous seasons.
