The Formula 1 teams will test the new Pirelli tyres for 2021 on Friday during practice at Silverstone and the following week in Barcelona. All teams are obliged to use the prototypes.

That's what Motorsport.com says. In Great Britain and Barcelona the tyres are tested during the first thirty minutes of the second free practice on Friday. Pirelli does not intend to introduce the tyres immediately if there are positive reactions: the current rubber will remain in use anyway this season. The Italian tyre company still wants to make some adjustments in order to build in an extra margin.

"We have sent the teams the information that we intend to use the option to have the first 30 minutes of FP2 available to test tyre development during the second race at Silverstone and during the race in Barcelona," said Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola. "The idea is to test different solutions with improved integrity, which means that these tires can work at a lower pressure, and a few other solutions, with a goal of reducing overheating".

Improving Integrity

"Of course we want to test a few ideas to improve integrity, given that the teams are going to develop their cars and add downforce to the cars for next year", concludes Isola.
