FIA sees growing distrust: "Part is based on paranoia and fear"
- GPblog.com
After it became known that Ferrari had tampered with the fuel supply to the engine last year, many Formula 1 teams were still afraid. Regularly they get a request from the FIA to the teams to check an engine at the competitor.
Nicholas Tombazis works for the FIA and gets the suspicions, always one every week. Since the debacle at Ferrari last year, there are still teams who are worried when they judge the engine of competing teams, while adjustments have been made to the way of measuring and the regulations.
"I think the extra sensors we have introduced are working well. The teams now have more confidence in the measurements that we carry out on behalf of the FIA, but we are still receiving information from teams who are worried". Above all, it indicates that all teams want to avoid a repetition of the Ferrari story. "Some of the suspicions may be based on fear and paranoia. There is distrust", admits Tombazis. Something that the FIA itself has created because of a mysterious appointment with Ferrari.
Secret deal
To the dissatisfaction of almost all Formula 1 teams, a secret deal was made between Ferrari and the FIA which meant that any foul play was never admitted. Strikingly enough Ferrari no longer drives a dent in a packet of butter after protests about the speed of the Italian car in the last part of last season.
For this year there are no indications yet that strange things are happening to the power source of a Formula 1 team. "At the moment there is no reason for concern when it comes to breaking the rules although we still have a few things to judge", concludes the Greek employed by the FIA opposite Motorsport.com.
