Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer is standing up for Sergio Perez. Perez's seat has been compromised now that Sebastian Vettel is free on the transfer market. According to the latest rumours, the German has a good chance of taking over Perez's place.

Good score for Perez

Perez has been driving for Racing Point since 2014, when it was still known as Force India. He managed several podium finishes for the team and scored more points than his teammate in the past five years.

Perez doesn't just leave

"I think the fact that he’s got a signed contract will be a key factor that makes me keep him. But I know what you’re asking", says Szafnauer in conversation with RaceFans.net.

"Sergio’s been loyal to us, he’s been here for a long time, he’s a great racer. He works well with Lance [Stroll] and he helps Lance. So I’m sure all those factors do matter when people make decisions", concludes the Romanian team boss.
