Max Verstappen can count on the compliments of Martin Brundle after the Hungarian Grand Prix. The former Formula 1 driver believes that the 22-year old racer is the only one who can put Mercedes in trouble this year.

"Max had a wild moment going to the grid, and then actually properly crashed in turn 12 when locking up his brakes on a wet track, breaking the left track-rod and suspension pushrod", Brundle outlined the situation in his column for Sky Sports. "Miraculously he got it to the grid and, with less than 30 seconds to spare, the team impressively repaired the car."

Verstappen puts down 'sensational' P2

According to the Formula 1 commentator, the fact that Verstappen managed to get from seventh place by steaming to second position is exceptional. "To split the Mercedes was a sensational effort from Max, notwithstanding Bottas having a jumpy start and falling back," said the 61-year-old Briton.

The W11 of Mercedes seems unapproachable in 2020. According to Brundle, the Red Bull Racing driver is the only one who can make the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas difficult this season. "Only Verstappen's prodigious talent and determination can trouble Mercedes in the dry right now," he concludes.
