For Ferrari, the Hungarian Grand Prix looked like the first race in 2020 in which the team could once again compete at the front of the field. The final race turned out to be different. After the short wet period both drivers fell far back and only Sebastian Vettel managed to gain points. At RaceFans.net Mattia Binotto looks back on the disappointing race at the Hungaroring.

"Our race, was generally quite disappointing. After qualifying we had really hoped for a better race, but unfortunately that turned out not to be the case", Binotto admits. After the short wet period everyone went to the dry tyre, with Ferrari opting for the softest tyre, which turned out to be the wrong choice in the end. "The choice to put Charles (Leclerc) on softs didn't turn out to be the right one in the end".

Wrong gamble with the rain

"Which missed the speed, has yet to be analyzed. I think we put Charles in an awkward position. Then we thought the soft tyre would be the right choice, because rain was coming. That rain didn't come at all in the end. Of course it's very easy to say that afterwards," Binotto said.

The Italian says there's a lot of work to be done before racing again at Silverstone. "We need to understand our racing speed. After three races I can conclude that we as Ferrari can't be happy with the current situation, it's very disappointing. In Barcelona we weren't fast enough, but I don't think we expected this difficult situation", concluded Binotto.
