After the Friday trainings at the Hungaroring there are not many conclusions to draw. Because there was hardly any driving during the second free practice there is not much data to analyze. Still Formula1.com has tried to make a list of the times of Friday and to find out who has already set faster times. Remarkable is that Red Bull Racing is far behind Mercedes.

On the dry track during the first free practice, Racing Point was again very strong. Until halfway through the fastest lap of the team they were even ahead of the Mercedes car and in the end they were the second team in the timesheet, half a second from Mercedes. Red Bull was still reasonably fast in the first part, but lost more than a second in one lap.

Lack of balance of RB16

The big difference with Mercedes in lap time may be due to the balance that was still missing in the car of Max Verstappen and Alex Albon. During the second session the team had hoped for a better result, but because of the rain the team chose not to go outside for many laps. In the end the team only made one lap.

They were the fastest in the first sector, but lost a lot of time in the third sector. In the slow corners there is still a lot of work to be done on a wet track for Red Bull, who will hope to really fight with Mercedes on Saturday. Based on Friday, it is clear Mercedes is the fastest, followed by the 'pink Mercedes' of Racing Point. Ferrari has made clear progress and hopes for better results in Hungary.
