George Russell's gonna be driving for Williams for another year. The confirmation came during the press moment prior to the GP of Hungary. Because of the strong rumors of an extension of Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes, this move was in line with expectations.

The Mercedes-junior George Russell has indicated on Thursday afternoon that he will drive for Williams for another year. The young F2 champion of 2018 will thus enter his third season with the team. It seems that this will only give Russell a chance to wait for the better work.

In 2019 we saw that Russell was a talented and strong driver. He almost always beat the returning veteran, Robert Kubica. Still, the Brit hasn't been able to grab a single point so far. In Austria 2020 the team seemed to do a little better. Russell made it to Q2.

Waiting for seat at Mercedes

Rumour had it last week that Valtteri Bottas would have signed a contract extension with Mercedes for 2021. This would mean that Russell's chances with the team would have been lost immediately, since Lewis Hamilton won't be leaving the team either.

Russell is currently active in F1 as a Mercedes talent and is waiting until he can make his debut with the championship team. The field seems to be closed at the moment and all the seats are good as filled. In addition, Russell is taking on Sebastian Vettel who, if he doesn't stop this year, is also looking for a seat.

With Russell's confirmation Bottas' contract also seems a lot more credible.
