After two rounds in the Austrian mountains, Red Bull Racing once again seems to have a big gap over Mercedes in terms of performance. This despite the fact that the team had expected to be there from the very first moment prior to the season.

Hope was dashed

After a double elimination with Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon during the Austrian Grand Prix, Red Bull still had hope that they would be close to the formation from Germany, but during the Styrian Grand Prix it became painfully clear that the pace was not yet there.

The big problems for the Red Bull are on the straights, according to the analysis of Auto, Motor und Sport. The Honda engine doesn't seem powerful enough yet and the car also seems to suffer too much from drag. The Red Bull clearly shows more pace in the slower corners. Esepcially in turn 3 the Red Bull almost always managed to win time.

Opportunities in Hungary

Next weekend the drivers will drive at the Hungaroring. A circuit with considerably less long straights than the Red Bull Ring has. It is on this circuit that Red Bull must show that they can fight with Mercedes. It is also often very hot during the Hungarian summers and Toto Wolff has said before that heat is the achilles heel of the team.
