Mercedes expected a harder battle: "Haven't seen the real Red Bull yet"

Mercedes may have won the first two Grands Prix of 2020 quite convincingly but Toto Wolff remains wary of the competition. The Austrian team boss states that we have not yet seen the 'real' Red Bull Racing during the races in Spielberg.

"We have not seen the real Red Bull yet," Wolff is quoted by Auto, Motor und Sport. The 48-year-old chief thinks that Max Verstappen hasn't been able to show the true speed of the RB16. "Max Verstappen drove in the dirty air with an ultimately damaged car."

Mercedes can go a lot quicker

According to the team boss, Mercedes can also continue to up their performances if it turns out to be necessary. "But we have not seen the real Mercedes yet, you know," Wolff continues his story. Hamilton tried to go for the fastest lap at the end of the Grand Prix. On 41 laps of old tires, the British rider came to a time of 1: 06.719, the third-fastest lap of the day. That shows that there is a lot of potential in the W11.

The top man at the German formation is curious about how things are going to go in Hungary next week. It promises to be a warm weekend and that is something that will not benefit Mercedes. "That is still one of our weaknesses," said Wolff.
