Max Verstappen had a quiet race on Sunday. The Dutchman did manage to get his first podium of the season. He finished third behind the two Mercedes.

Verstappen's first podium of the season

“I tried, but we were just a bit too slow. I pushed as hard as I could," Verstappen said after the race.

"We have some work to do. In the end with Valtteri, I could see him coming so my tyres were pretty dead.  I knew he was going to get by anyway a lap later. That was at least fun, because the rest of the race was pretty boring. The podium is good, but still a lot of work to do.”

When asked if he is expecting upgrades at the next race, the Dutchman replied: “I don’t know yet. We’re looking for it and we will see next week.”

Work to do for Honda

The RB16 is not yet competitive enough to go for victory on its own. At least, that's what it looks like.

"We have to keep working. We have to improve the car and engine, because we are clearly too slow on the straights," the eight times Grand Prix winner said.
