After not driving in Formula 1 for two seasons, Fernando Alonso returns to the pinnacle of motorsport in 2021. The two-time world champion will compete for the Renault team, and that will be no problem for him. Alonso can count on a nice salary.

Indeed, by 2022 Alonso is said to be earning around £15 million a season. So when his contract expires after two years, the Spaniard will be 33 million euros richer in total. That's what the English medium The Sun writes on Wednesday. There may be bonuses on top of this.

It is remarkable that Renault has managed to free up so much money for Alonso's bows. The French car brand has to cut back about 2 billion euros in the coming years, but the Formula 1 branch doesn't seem to have to cut back much.

Alonso is one of the best paid F1 drivers

Despite his million-dollar salary, Alonso doesn't earn more than other top riders like Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo. However, the 38-year-old driver will earn more than the Ferrari riders of 2021. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz won't both make more than ten million euros a season.
